Submissions
APSS Papers showcase some of the best political science writing by students. Authors must be undergraduate or master’s students, or the paper must have been completed during their undergraduate or master’s studies as part of a course. While priority will be given to students from Wilfrid Laurier University, submissions are open to students from universities worldwide.
We welcome submissions of 2,000–4,000 words in the area of Political Science and Policy, including its sub-disciplines. Submissions should contribute to contemporary academic and policy debates with original insights or critical analysis.
If you wish to contribute a paper, please adhere to the following guidelines:
Formatting Requirements
- Citation Style: APA 7th Edition
- Word Count: 2,000–4,000 words (excluding references, abstract, keywords, and acknowledgments)
- Spacing: All submissions must be double-spaced.
- Margins: Use standard 1-inch margins on all sides.
- Abstract: 200-word summary of the paper’s key arguments and contributions.
- Keywords: Provide 5 keywords.
- Acknowledgments: Include up to 100 words to recognize any individuals, organizations, or institutions that contributed to the research or writing process.
Submission Content
Your submission should include the following sections:
1. Title Page
- Paper Title
- Author Name(s) and Affiliation(s)
- Contact Email
2. Abstract and Keywords
3. Main Text
- Introduction
- Main Body (with appropriate headings/subheadings)
- Conclusion
4. References: A list of all cited works in APA 7th Edition format.

Review and Publication Process
Notification: If your paper is selected, you will be notified within 8 weeks of submission. Unfortunately, we are not able to publish every paper submitted. Rejection of a paper does not necessarily indicate poor quality of scholarship but may instead result from an incorrect ‘fit’ with the ethos of this publication.
Feedback: Following selection, you will receive detailed feedback within the next 8 weeks to address and revise.
Final Submission: Once we receive your edited version, we will begin the publication process.
Eligibility and Scope
- Open to undergraduate students or students who have graduated from their undergraduate program within the past year.
- Submissions should focus on topics within Political Science and Policy, including but not limited to governance, international relations, public policy, political theory, and sociology.
